Fire Preparedness

Fire prepareness

Smoke detectors

Smoke detectors should be installed in as many areas as possible, no fewer than two to an apartment. Test them frequently and replace batteries yearly.

Air is purest closest to the floor

When exiting a smoke-filled apartment it is best to keep your head as close to the floor as possible to avoid smoke and heat.

Escape routes

There should be a minimum of two escape routes out of every apartment. Everyone must know how they would be able to get out in a fire.

Meet up outside

Decide ahead of time where to meet up after the apartment has been exited. This will make it easier to quickly check whether everyone has been able to make it out.

Emergency line – 112

Call the emergency line 112 as soon as it is possible to do so. Say “eldur” or “fire” and give your name, location and telephone number.

Fire extinguishers and blankets

It is necessary to have fire extinguishers and fire blankets in every apartment. Use them if possible. The most important thing is that everyone makes it out unharmed!
